There is some great news for fans of the 39th Street corridor, the awful Minsky's located there has finally shut down.  That place was awful.  Awful food, awful service, awful building.  But on the bright side, kids could chase the numerous mice in the place around for entertainment while waiting on the food.

Well, the place has been completely gutted and it will soon open as the Hi-Dive Lounge.  I got a sneak peak of the newly refurbished insides the other day and the place looks great.  Nice and clean without feeling like your in some sort of fancy Plaza bar.

The food will be classy yet approachable bar fare and the beer menu will feature everything from standard yard brews to tasty select irish whisky.  And while I didn't yet see any TV's plastered on the walls, it's sure to become the sports viewing destination for 39th Street neighborhoods.  The place should be up and running within a month and I'll be sure to provide a good review after I've has a chance to try it out a few (dozen?) times.  I have a tough job writing for this blog, but I will endeavor to drive on.

I was so excited about this place until I learned about its sports bar nature. Sports are irritating; tv’s in restaurants are trashy and irritating. Plus, 39th Street already has a place loaded down with huge tv’s blasting sports (Fric & Frac). I’m hoping this doesn’t attract leering ex-frat guys looking for a place to exude AXE cologne and stumble around drunk on 39th Street. This place looks awesome from the street but now I’m disappointed. Or at least apprehensive.

...that's weird because Frac has exactly ONE giant tv and it is rarely blasting sports unless someone asks to watch something...try doing that instead of complaining!

Thanks for the input. I understand both of the pevious comments. I don't think Fric and Frac is much of a sports bar, per se. It just tries to fill that niche for an area that lacks any true sports bar.

I also wouldn't be scared off by the sports bar tag as I envision this place being a bar first that also happens to have sports on. I also don't see the frat guy scene as much as a neighborhood watering hole. Some older guys, a few local hipsters, regular joes, a sprinkling of KU Med students, and an overall good environment. Hope to see you guys (or gals) there.

I can't wait until this place opens! I'm going to get all my frat buddies together and make this our new hang out! Hahaha! Really? Stereotyping is definately not something you should do in the 39th St corridor. Maybe you should just move, we don’t need negative Nancy’s in our neighborhood.

No need to worry about anything over there getting to popular. The two whole parking space each bussiness has fill quick.

I never leave comments but I just have to publicly tell you you're an unbelievably pretentious bitch and I'm glad you won't be going to that bar
