Adopt a kid

Be honest, when you think about adopting a poor little kid from the poor side of Nairobi, you expect to help that kid, its family and yourself. But I don't think you would expect some kid like Matumbo.

Saturday

Are you overqualified too?

Some dude writes insanely funny letters to companies in hopes of landing a job. Oh, he's qualified alright.

Serious food blogs

Ideas in Food
"Chefs, writers, photographers, partners, and husband and wife, Ideas in Food is the creation of H. Alexander Talbot and Aki Kamozawa"

It is all about technique, and these two have it. They have some links on the left to some great books. Buy them, read them, make better food. Noobs.

"Because sometimes it's important to understand what the rules are in order to bend them to suit."

Gastropoda
Very cool website centered around food writing. Reading and writing about food.... almost as good as eating it.

Blogging Chefs

There is a lot of Chefs starting to blog. Here is a great article about it in the LA Times.

One blog I find very cool is L.2o It is written by a woman opening a new place in Philadelphia. She is blogging in detail about the entire experience from start to finish. Very interesting... to me anyway. Oh..... she is pretty hot too.

"Chef Alison Barshak, who earned a national reputation as the debut chef at Striped Bass the year it was awarded Esquire’s coveted title “the best new restaurant in the country,” opened her sophisticated suburban bistro in May 2003. Now four years old, Alison at Blue Bell, a liquor license & BYOB, is drawing Center City Philadelphians and New Yorkers to Blue Bell, PA."

Take over my menu? Come on in!

"JOE's in Venice might as well be called Joe's Halfway House, with all the chefs between gigs who end up working at the Michelin-starred Cal-French restaurant.

The list of who's temporarily parked here includes the Waffle's Scooter Kanfer-Cartmill (when Naya closed), Fraîche's Jason Travi (between Granita and Spago), Josef Centeno (before Aubergine and Meson G), Josiah Citrin (after leaving JiRaffe to open Mélisse) and Trey Foshee of Georges at the Cove in La Jolla (between L'Orangerie and Röckenwagner)."

I think this is a great idea. I wish someone in KC would create a "concept" restaurant that does this full-time. Maybe you should start it up? Call me when your doors open.

This monkey is awesome!

Seriously... check out this monkey.

10 Best/Worst Foods

I thought Bugles were going to be on this list. At 40% of your daily value of fat - they should be.

"Unless you're suicidal, why on earth would you want to wolf down a Burger King Quad Stacker — 4 hamburger patties, 4 slices of cheese, 8 strips of bacon, plus sauce and a bun? That's half-a-day's calories (1,000), one-and-a-half-days' worth of saturated fat (30 grams), 3 grams of trans fat, and more than a day's sodium (1,800 mg). Urp!"

Eat Dangerously

Here are some sample recipes from the "Blow Health Out Your Ass" cookbook.

An excerpt from "The Turkey from Hell" recipe.

" Rub turkey with olive oil massaging it gently
and roughly alternatively like a pair of
breasts. You have to do it, because the
turkey likes to be fondled for some reason.
Kiss the left breast and then the right
breast. Do not (in case you didn't read me
the first time: DO NOT) give preferential
treatment to the left side or the right side of
the turkey, rub both sides equally."

This book looks hilarious and delicious, I think I'll pick one up. You can download the e-book in pdf format for $3.
